Let’s make #sentisabado a trending topic again on Twitter people!

It started out as last Saturday, August 28, 2010, as a simple nostalgic trivia between igad Interactive Solutions Inc. social media consultant Tonyo Cruz and a handful of friends over at Twitter. It didn’t take long before other Twitter users followed by sharing their own childhood memories. The rules were simple, tweet something nostalgic (90s, 80s, 70s, etc.) and use the hashtag #sentisabado.

“Nung Sabado namin sinimulan. May mga ilang artista at TV news personalities na kasali na (We started it last Saturday. We have some celebrities and TV News personalities joining),” Cruz tweeted in reply to Yahoo! Southeast Asia’s query on who started this social experiment.

Just this Saturday, Tonyo organized another #sentisabado Twitter event with the theme, “Our wonder years: Flashback to elementary/grade school”.

On the first #sentisabado event, we learned that Chuckie Dreyfus can literally represent #sentisabado (LOL, JK!) and how ABS-CBN reporter Ryan Chua remembered when Pia Hontiveros was strapped at a flagpole at PAGASA while reporting in the middle of a storm. He said that he was in Grade 2 while another ABS-CBN reporter, Jeff Canoy, was in Grade 5 when that event happened. Pia replied in jest that she’d send them memos for relieving that event.

Part that made #sentisabado a success was because it was joined by influencers on the internet. These include celebrities, news reporters and anchors, bloggers and even politicians.

“It is not for being a “sentimental fool” or jumping onto the bandwagon that drove hordes of Generation X and Y to share a tweet or two (or even max out one’s API calls). It is the raw urge to mirror one’s desire to relive experiences that now dwell only in the well-preserved confines of the VHS tape or the cassette tape – that only a privileged few would’ve archived. It was cathartic for a young adult, caught in the midst of adult woes, to escape virtually and share his/her piece of childhood – one tweet after another.,” blogged by Marga, one of those very active on both #sentisabado events.

#sentisabado last September 4, 2010 reached a milestone as it became the 4th trending topic on Twitter worldwide.

“At the core of it, #sentisabado is a collective exercise of remembering. In remembering, we try not to forget. In trying not to forget, we share a collective memory and we prep ourselves to act so the best of the past, the best of now, and what we intend to make the best of the future, would come together — and ultimately make #sentisabado as fun 10, 20 or 30 years from now.,” said Tonyo.
